The Second Sole of Boardman is oldest store in the company first opening its doors in 1981. The 4000 square foot retail store located at 755 Boardman Canfield Rd also functions as the company’s corporate headquarters, and is the home office of company President Mr. Steve Hixson. This location has been around long enough to have seen the first running boom in the early 80’s and now the second with the explosion of marathon popularity. “Twenty-seven years and still running”, as we like to say. We not only were around for the first running boom, but were instrumental in helping launch it in the Youngstown area. We have been and continue to be partnered with, and sponsor the Youngstown Road Runners Club, and more recently the Steel Valley Triathlon Club, both of whom are driven to increase the quality and number of racing opportunities locally.  Although each Second Sole location has its own staff and personality, the tone of the company is set at this location. Many of the company’s employees have worked at one time or another in this store. The Boardman location is staffed with dedicated runners, who know what you needs are. Several members of our staff are coaches, or race directors and all are dedicated to giving you the time, attention, and care that your footwear choice deserves.

Our involvement in the community can be seen at local races, many of which we sponsor, time, direct or are in some way involved with. A few highlights in the calendar would be The Peace race 10k, YRRC distance classic ½ marathon, Firecracker 4mile, Cardinal classic 5k, YMCA Sprint Triathlon, Mosquito Lake Chase 5k, and Milton Man Triathlons.

You don’t have to be a runner to shop at Second Sole. Walkers will find a great selection of walking footwear, and we have had tremendous success sharing the secrets of running shoes with walkers. Many walkers have never experienced the cushioning in a running shoe, and once they try it, some never go back to walkers.

Over the years we have developed a relationship with the local podiatric community, and on a daily basis we are recommended by these doctors for there patient’s specific footwear needs. They know we will take the time to make sure that the right shoe is properly fitted to their patient.

We specialize in the obvious, running shoes, running related apparel and accessories from all the major brands. Shoes from Nike, Asics, New Balance, Saucony, Mizuno, Brooks, Adidas, Keen, Merrell…. Apparel and accessories from Patagonia, Life is Good, Craft, Sugoi, Nike, Asics, Brooks, Zoot Pearl Izumi, Polar, Garmin, Timex, Oakley, and the list goes on and on. If you are in to running, triathlon walking, yoga, tennis, we have what you need.

We are also a major supplier of footwear, uniforms, and equipment to schools for just about any sport or activity. Anyone who runs Track or Cross Country in the area knows that this is the place to see the latest and best shoes, but we also outfit cheerleaders, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, football, and baseball teams. Second Sole feels strongly about making sure that young people are in safe quality footwear as they are active in sports and in life.
